Can decluttering help you improve your chances of selling your home?23/05/16
The answer to this is a resounding YES! You may even end up selling it faster than you expect.
Decluttering your house helps the buyer see the house as their own
When potential buyers come to look around your property, they want to be able to imagine themselves living there. They need to be able to visualise their stuff in your home. If your walls are plastered with loads of family photos, or shelves are untidily stacked with books, they may have a hard time imagining themselves living there. Why not take down the personal photos and tidy away the books? Empty clean walls can help make a room look larger and give the impression of more space.
Give the impression of Adequate Storage Space
If you have to battle to close your wardrobes and closets, then it’s probably time to start clearing out! You don’t want to give buyers the impression that there may not be room for all their belongings. And the more you clear out now, the less you have to pack when you move.
Don’t make buyers suspicious
Excess clutter can make it hard for potential buyers to see your property clearly and get an accurate impression of the true condition it’s in. This can make them suspicious that there could be underlying problems they can’t see. Make sure all your rooms are tidy enough that radiators can be inspected, corners accessed and walls, skirting and trim are easily visible.
How to go about decluttering
Go through every room of your home. Items that are not essential to your everyday functioning can be boxed away. Collections of antique dolls or unused exercise equipment should either be neatly stored in a closet or, if necessary, in a rented storage unit. That way it’s all boxed and ready to move when you are!
