Since Le Gallais joined EcoActive in March 2016, we have been looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
Our initiatives have ranged from converting to PIR-activated LED lights throughout our self-storage facility in 2016, provision of bike storage to commercial tenants in 2018, solar panels in 2020 and recently the acquisition of E-bikes for our estate agency in 2021.
Rewilding Carbon to make a positive impact
We don't want to wait any longer to mitigate our climate impact so we teamed up with Sheena Brockie (www.thegoodjerseylife.business) to calculate our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, we also went over and above to calculate the Scope 3 emissions where data was available.
We will use these calculations as a baseline to reduce our emissions over time. We are also working with Durrell to offset our carbon emissions and have put in a bit extra to become Climate Positive with Durrell’s creative, colourful and unique Rewild Carbon scheme. Their project does so much more than mitigating our climate impact and more information can be found at tps://www.durrell.org/wildlife/rewildcarbon/
One challenge is calculating Schedule 3 inputs so we are encouraging our own suppliers to get on board too. With the help of local professionals, it isn't too onerous and it feels great to be taking positive green steps.
Le Gallais has become the oldest family owned business in the Channel Islands by keeping an eye on the future as well as learning lessons from its past. We are continuing our journey, so keep an eye out for our sustainable transport policy plans for 2022.
